Learn from Diana Hacker-------clear sentence

Sometimes the sentences I writed are very long, even though, other people still cannot understand the main idea of my sentences. From the clear sentence part, I learn how to make the sentence clearer and easy to know.
Frist of all, I get to know that we should pay attention on what the sentence it is, it is passive or active. And then, we can make the sentence clearer by writing the subject names the actor. For instance, " The board of director acknowledged Martha's participation in the literacy program." on this sentence participation should be named by the board of directors not by ackowledge, so we should not say participation was acknowlefged by the board of directors.
Secondly, we should know well about what you want to describe and write down that well-defined. Such as, who do what things? " the doctor saw scars" not others; "I designed the party invitations" not other else. So there must have subject in the sentence.
In a word, sentence need to be logical, which means subject names the actor and subject have to be shown in the sentence. If it need to be passive, people should write in passive way; if it need to be active, people should write in active way. From that, people will know that who do what things, or what things should be done.

Ranking of story-of-a-box

No.1 Le Ha N
The substance of this story is very clear and orderly, which I can have a clear idea of this story. Although the beginning of this story is commonly just as what happened in our daily life, I was smile after I read because of the surprised ending. And more, the most attractive point is that this story has the real emotion, which I can feel the same feeling with the writer.( may be because I am a international student too, I like this story more than others)

No.2 Brune Laci L
The best bright spot of this story is that it is filled with subtle and refined sentiment, which can let me taste this story slightly, specially the words. Furthermore, the writer connect all the inventories in a very sweet way that with memory. However, if writer can separate the whole story into different paragraphs, there will be better.

No. 3 Schleif Emily A
This story is especially attractive and gives me a different feeling compared to others, because it is a strange dream. Writer describes the surroundings detailedly, at the beginning, the fevered circumstance catches me a lot, which let me want to read more to know what will happen next. In a word, writer successfully describes the strange situation and uses all the inventories, it's really good.
