My first interview experience in class

Today I had a good time to work with Laci and Khalid, it was a great interview. During the interview with Laci, I found that Americans like spending time with their family during the festivals; they put their family in a very high position of them. And, Americans loves spends time with friends and do sports. When talked with Khalid, I could feel that most of Saudi's people have big family, such as two brothers and four sisters, that's a great shock to me. Most of Saudi Arabians were Muslim, so they never drunk alcohol and never went to bars. The interview with Laci was really smoothly that we could find a lot of words to say about one question. However, the interview with Khalid was not so good as the front one, sometimes we could not understand each other about what we said. I thought it was the matter of the language; both Khalid and I were not English speakers, so it would be a little bit difficult to communicate for us. In this way, I felt some kind of embarrassed, when there were no sounds between us. What should I say? Is it good that I ask him the question directly? When I directly asked Khalid the question, I felt it like question and answer, it was not a talk! So how can I deal with this problem? This kind of problem may happen in the real interview. Thinking about the interview with Laci, first I should be patient with warm smile which could make interviewees feel comfortable to talk. And then, when there are some words we don't understand between each other, I should explain detail or honestly ask the interviewee.
